For those of us in recovery, societal pressures and personal struggles can weigh us down to the point where finding the strength to overcome our addictions seems impossible. Recovery, of course, requires immense courage and determination. It’s hard, but the work pays off in dividends.
Today, I want to share a story of resilience and hope, one that illustrates the power of self-reflection, support, and the unwavering desire to change. This is a story about Jessica, a woman who embarked on a journey of sobriety, seeking a brighter, healthier, and more fulfilling life.
Acknowledging the Problem
“I think I’m an alcoholic.”
Jessica recognized that alcohol had slowly become a significant part of her life after five years of drinking. Working from home and dealing with the solitude that often accompanies it, the temptation to drink after work grew stronger. Loneliness became a catalyst, leading to a reliance on alcohol to fill the void. The realization that alcoholism had taken hold was alarming.

On a fateful Valentine's Day, Jessica made a pivotal decision to confront her addiction.
